[Elisha said], “But get me a musician.” And then, while the musician was playing, the power of the Lord came on him. [2 Kings 3:15 NRSV]

Music Ministries

Music plays a central part in our worship services here at Temple, and there are many opportunities for sharing musical talent during worship. If you are interested in getting involved with any of our music ministries, please contact Florrie Marks, Director of Music Ministries, at music(at)templelutheran.org.

Kenaniah, the Praise Band of Temple Lutheran Church - Kenaniah was a Levite musician [1 Chronicles 15:22] who was skilled in leading his people in song. Our praise band, also called Kenaniah, is equally skilled and leads worship almost every Sunday during the program year. Led by our Director of Music on keyboard, we welcome guitarists, bass players, drummers, and other instrumentalists. We rehearse at the convenience of the members, and we warm up at 10:00 on Sunday morning, just prior to the service.

Contemporary Service Praise Team - During the contemporary service, a team of singers leads the singing along with Kenaniah. More voices are always welcome! The group warms up at 10:00 on Sunday morning, just prior to the service.

Youth Praise Band - This group leads music during the contemporary service about once a month. Rehearsals are arranged around our schedules. The best instruments for this group are band instruments (i.e., woodwinds and brass), drums, guitar and bass guitar. It’s a great way to be involved with worship and to gain valuable ensemble playing experience.

Children’s Music Group - The Children’s Music Group (ages 6 and up) meets on Wednesdays at 5:30, beginning in early September. We sing, ring handchimes, play music games, and generally have fun learning about music. The children also periodically sing in church. If there is enough interest, we have Music Fun for 4- and 5-year olds.

We2 - The high school music group, We2 (with apologies to U2), rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7:00-7:45 from September through December, beginning in early September. (The schedule switches to Wednesdays at the same time in January.) We cover a range of styles, from traditional anthems to more contemporary songs, with a variety of accompaniment. High school students who sing or play an instrument are welcome to be a part of this group!

Handbell Choir - Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7:45-8:45, beginning in early September. (As with the high school group, the schedule switches to Wednesdays in January.) All ages and levels welcome! We also offer opportunities for small ensemble (solos, duets, trios, quartets) for advanced ringers.

Festival Choir - Our Festival Choir sings on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday, as well as on a few other occasions during the year. Rehearsals are scheduled during the weeks leading up to the service(s).

Fifth Sunday Choir - This group sings whenever there is a fifth Sunday, with rehearsals during the preceding three weeks.  All are welcome!

Instrumental Ensemble - Our Instrumental Ensemble plays on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday, and at other times during the year. Rehearsals are scheduled during the weeks leading up to the service(s).

Instrumental and Vocal Soloists - Throughout the year, there are numerous opportunities for volunteers to play or sing solos during worship. All you have to do is say you’re interested!
