Volunteer with Temple Lutheran

Our life together is enriched as we work together to serve others motivated by the love of God. Service is a vital part of the ministry of Temple Lutheran Church. Below are some examples of the many opportunities for service that are available:

Meals for the Homeless – Temple Lutheran Church regularly provides meals for our homeless neighbors through the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County. Several volunteers donate and prepare food. A team then takes the meals to Upper Darby where they serve over 200 meals. Volunteers are always needed and the experience is always worthwhile. To volunteer, please contact the offices of Temple Lutheran Church.

Food Donations – Food donations can be brought to Temple Lutheran Church and placed in baskets at the entrances to worship or left at the church offices. Food donations are taken to Grace Lutheran Church (3529 Haverford Avenue) where they are distributed.

“Hotel Soap” Donations – When staying in a hotel, bring home your unused soap and shampoo. These items are collected at Temple Lutheran Church and provided to the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County to benefit our homeless neighbors.

Clothing/Household Items Donations – Donations of clothing and household items are received on a limited basis and provided to Grace Lutheran Church (3529 Haverford Avenue) where they are distributed.

Interfaith Hospitality Network – Overnight shelter is provided for families with children that are working toward stable housing and self-sufficiency. Volunteers are needed to provide and share an evening meal with IHN residents, spend an evening with residents, or serve as an overnight volunteer. IHN volunteer opportunities are provided at Union United Methodist Church (3 blocks from Temple Lutheran). For more information, please contact the offices of Temple Lutheran Church.

Habitat For Humanity
– The Delaware County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is currently working to grow into a thriving provider of decent affordable housing. Members of Temple Lutheran Church have been active with Habitat for many years. In 2008, our congregation as a whole became involved in a project in nearby Chester, PA that launched Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity. We continue to encourage individual support of Habitat for Humanity and will continue organize volunteer work teams for building projects. For more information, please contact the offices of Temple Lutheran Church.

Kevin Cain Foundation – An effort operating in Temple Lutheran’s local neighborhood, the Kevin Cain foundation helps people living with cancer, as well as their families, by providing monetary relief for medicines and other items needed in their daily lives. Temple Lutheran Church has been a top sponsor of the annual “Kevin Cain Make My Day 5K” run/walk held on the first Sunday of April. More information available at www.kevincain.org.
