Becoming a member of the congregation at Temple Lutheran Church is open to everyone – no exceptions!

What is membership?

Often, the word "membership" is associated with a sense of privileges ("What do I get?") and duties ("What do I have to do?"). While there are many benefits-and many opportunities to serve-for everyone actively engaged in our congregation, they do not define our purpose. Our chief purpose is to be a family of faith worshipping God together, nurturing one another in faith and reaching out in witness and service to the world. This is reflected in our mission statement: to know Christ and make Christ Known. To become a member is to be welcomed into a family and regarded as a partner in this exciting mission.

What does it mean to be a member?

To be a member of our congregation is to be actively engaged in our mission: to know Christ and make Christ known.

As members of a congregation, we nurture one another as we grow in faith together, striving to know Christ. All members are encouraged to experience the joy and growth that result from daily prayer, weekly worship, and reading and studying the Bible, both individually and together.

As we grow in faith, we seek to give that faith expression in all areas of our lives as we make Christ known.  Congregation members strive to serve others-in and beyond the congregation. Our expressions of faith are as diverse and plentiful as the people that make up the congregation. As we serve others, we also encourage others to grow in faith with us.

Our ministry and mission depend completely on the faithful participation of our members. Congregation members give generously-as enabled by God-of our time, our talents and our many resources, including finances. Giving is not done out of obligation or self-interest. In a spirit of joy and thanksgiving we offer what God has first given us.

How do I become a member?

Temple Lutheran Church is a community of baptized persons who exist to hear and share the good news of God's love revealed in Jesus Christ. It is through baptism that you become a member of God's Church. If you are already baptized, you do not need to be baptized again-you will be welcomed as a member. If you are not baptized, we are glad to share the wonderful gift of baptism with you. As a congregation, we strive together to grow in the faith into which we have been baptized. Becoming a member of the congregation is a significant decision and commitment that is very important to celebrate together. You will be officially welcomed during a Sunday worship service soon after your decision to become a partner in our ministry together.
